CHAIR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Computer studies in the Võru County Vocational Training Centre date back to 1990, when computer training was included in the Metal and Wood Processing study programmes. By this time, the school had managed to acquire 8 computers ”JUKU”. With years the volume of computer training grew and the number of computers increased, until in 1999 the Information Technology speciality with one-year study period was opened.
In 2000, a new study programme with a 2-year study period was presented.

In 2001, with changes in the structure of the school, the Chair of Information Technology was formed.

In 2004, first students were admitted to the professional higher education level training of IT systems speciality.

The Chair of Information Technology prepares specialists in one of the most rapidly developing field of science and technology, which is information technology. Nowadays, the life and activity of every human is impossible without computer technology, which is what influences the developmental objectives of the chair of information technology in the Võru County Vocational Training Centre. The school uses the most contemporary technology and corresponding accessory software, we teach competitive specialities that are required today as well as in future. The technical equipment of the study classes and computer laboratories is constantly updated.

For successful competing at the open labour market, the chair has undertaken the task to guide students to lifelong learning, encourage the development of initiative and give an opportunity to obtain the following necessary general competences

o solving problems and making decisions
  o teamwork and communication
  o creative-critical thinking
  o balanced analytic-synthetic thinking
  o analysis skills

In addition to the specialities of their own chair, the teachers are giving computer training to the students of other specialities as well and in the framework of continuing training are conducting different information technology courses for both beginners and advanced learners.

The Chair of Information Technology in cooperation with IT College guarantees the working order of the information and communication technology appliances, development and maintenance of the computer network and information system in the Võru County Vocational Training Centre.

The teachers of the chair are the leaders of the E-Vocational School and are consulting the compilation of E-courses that are developed in the framework of the project. Since 2004, the Võru County Vocational Training Centre is the member of the E-Vocational School.

The apprenticeship incorporates about one-fourth of the study period and it is conducted both in the school’s laboratories, as well as in different companies and enterprises. The learners can also perform their apprenticeship partly or entirely in foreign countries.

The school has great opportunities for the refinement of practical skills: for that the network laboratory has been constructed to the second floor of the main building.

The laboratory contains materials for preparing the CAT5 and CAT6 twisted pair or optical network. Between the equipment lockers it is possible to practice the twisted pair cable and fibre optic cable networks, and configure active devices of the computer network. With cable analyser you can test the communication parameters and assess the quality of the communication.

With the wireless Internet device it is possible to test the various antennae, routers and reference points of the 54MHz WiFi.
